The Darkest Hour is Not So Dark After All

Who knew that a suspense/thriller movie would turn out to have so many moral lessons that could be applied in real life! Just this evening, I watched The Darkest Hour with my cousin and a friend. At first I thought it would be just another typical boring film. But throughout the duration of the movie, I had fun since there were so many moral lessons practically found in the film!

1st lesson - "You gotta have team work to make your dream work" The film showed a group of teenagers bonding up with each other and basically sticking up for each other as they find possible solutions to the problem at hand - aliens. (oops spoiler xD). Just like in real life especially in business, you gotta have a team that will pull each and all of you to your destined success. In a team, there's always a leader, the one who stands out the most among the group. He leads every one to their goals/dreams despite the circumstances and hindrances. In the movie, the leader portrayed strength, determination, and courage. His "team mates" would be down every now and then and as a leader, he pulls them up and motivates them as well as lead them to the right direction. Now why do we really need a team? Well, not all of us are a one man man/woman. Unless of course you're into I Am Legend. Basically, we know some stuffs that others don't and likewise, we don't know some stuffs that others do. So we compliment each other.

2nd lesson - " Why are you so positive!" The main character of the film was shown to be so positive and optimistic that others around him just didn't get it. In life, you have to be positive. I mean, would you be with someone so down and negative, who would IMMEDIATELY GIVE UP ON ONE FAILURE and be scared of finding solutions and just stick to the comfort zone where one feels most safe? Or be with someone with a vision in life who despite negative events, remains positive and focused? Of course, I'd rather go with the positive person! At least may patunguhan kesa puro reklamo, dakdak ng dakdak eh wala namang ginawa. :)

3rd lesson - "You're young. You tend to make rash decisions. But that's why you're here. That's why you survive." The film was led by a group of young people (20ish) who went against all odds. They didn't stick with the status quo (the majority of the OLDER survivors just remained in one area and worse- barricaded themselves with a brick wall)  They didn't explore other possible solutions like the young ones did. They even mocked the young ones telling them they're just kids. But in the end of the movie, the so called "just kids" were the very reason why those oldies came to find a new ray of hope. Para lang kasi yang totoong buhay. Older people tend to have ACNE haha I mean AKY (Alam Ko Na Yan) attitude. They think they know so much thus they shrivel down to mediocrity because they are afraid to commit mistakes. Well let me tell you my friend, never ever be afraid to make mistakes. That's how we learn stuffs. How will you know if you don't try in the first place? Just because someone else failed in that department doesn't mean you too will fail.  All you ever need to do is try. It's just like the stairs. You don't have to see the entire staircase. Just take the first step. Because in life, you don't have to be great to start. But you have to start to be great. :)

Overall, the movie was okay for me. Perhaps of course, I might just be one of the few who probably noticed the morals of the story. Proof that I've been reading too much motivational books hahaha.
